Uganda 2010 Worship Conference

The Master Classes shall run from 6.30 – 9.00 on August 10 and 12, 2010 and shall be free of charge to you and the members of your team. They will all run concurrently and so you will have to pick a track for the 2 days. They are designed to build on the spiritual principles that were discussed on August 8 and 9 and shall be a continuation of the conference.

Vocal Performance

A Master class track facilitated by Anna Williams – a trained vocalist and vocal coach.

The focus of these master classes shall be vocal performance, stage presence, vocal health and transitioning between roles (leading and backing up). Worship Leaders, backup vocalists and choir members shall greatly benefit from attending these master classes

Bass Guitar

A Master Class Track facilitated by Kent Bursey and Ibk Ajila – bass guitarists from Woodvale Pentecostal Church in Ottawa, Canada.

The focus of these classes shall be on instrumentation, basic theory, skills and speed, rhythmic playing, and placement inside an ensemble.

Kent and Ibk are also keen to learn from bass guitarists in Kampala and will tailor these master classes to contain moments in which there will be exchange of ideas among the bass guitarists present. Bass guitarists will greatly benefit from attending these master classes

Electric and Acoustic Guitar

A Master Class facilitated by Paulo Mugarura – the worship pastor, band leader and creative director from Woodvale Pentecostal Church in Ottawa, Canada

The focus of these classes shall be instrumentation, basic theory, chord progressions, electric VS acoustic and placement inside an ensemble.

Paulo is also keen to learn from instrumentalists in Kampala and will design all his master classes to include moments of sharing skills and tricks. Guitar players will greatly benefit from this interaction with a skilled and accomplished musician

Song Writing, Recording, and Worship Leading

A Master Class facilitated by Moses Mukisa – the Lead Pastor and music director at Worship Harvest, Kampala.

As the writer of numerous songs used for worship both in Uganda and abroad, and a fearless pioneer in recording worship albums in Uganda, Moses will share his passion for creating new, fresh, contemporary and scripturally based music, recording it and leading worship in a local church setting.

Worship Leaders and aspiring recording artists will greatly benefit from this master class

Keyboards and Piano

A Master Class facilitated by Paulo Mugarura – the worship pastor, band leader and creative director from Woodvale Pentecostal Church in Ottawa, Canada

The focus of these master classes shall be basic theory, building skills and speed, rhythmic playing, leading from an instrument and placement inside an ensemble.

Paulo has distinguished himself as a dedicated learner and performer on keyboards and Piano and keyboard players will gain a deeper love for and understanding of their instrument through time spent with him.

Drums

A master class facilitated by Sam Kirabo – drummer and administrator at Worship Harvest and will be assisted by Paulo Mugarura and Kent Bursey from Canada.

The focus of these classes shall be on rhythm, timing, rudiments, placement in an ensemble, playing for worship and playing for recordings

Drummers will greatly benefit from this master class because it shall contain a very hands-on approach to instruction and allow for much dialogue, sharing of ideas and practice.

Sound

A master class facilitated by Peter Mugarura – AKA DJ Twonjex. Twonjex is a musician, a singer and a DJ and therefore has a unique perspective on sound both from a performer’s stand point and from a sound person’s view point. He has much experience as a sound man at local churches, and at lerge – venue concerts.

These classes shall cover much technical material, but will also help the participants understand how sound works in a worship environment.

Sound people and aspiring sound people will greatly benefit from the hands-on experience of this course and the large pool of knowledge that DJ Twonjex is very willing to share.

Dance

A Master Class facilitated by Cathy Nakawesa who is a dance instructor and has a deep love for dance as an expression of worship and has had tons of experience as a performer and choreographer

The focus of these master classes shall be on choreography for worship, technique, and redefining dance as a tool for worship. People that are interested in starting a dance ministry from scratch or reviving a defunct dance ministry shall greatly benefit from this high-energy, artsy class. Please remember to bring clothes that you can jump and dance in!
